South and Southeast AsiaIn the markets Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia Laos, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka we are represented by our Hannover Rueckversicherung AG Malaysian BranchThe predecessor of the branch was set up as a service company in 1977. This office was converted into a Branch in September 1995 - soon after the Malaysian Government allowed foreign reinsurers to do so - and has hence been responsible for underwriting non-life business in Southeast Asia and South Asia. The treaty and facultative teams consist each of dedicated and experienced underwriters. All division heads and senior underwriters are professionals and have at least 15 years of experience in their respective fields. All new staff have to go through intensive training programmes. Staff training and continuous upgrading of skills play an important role in the branch. After having cautiously monitored primary insurance markets, we concentrate our support on particularly those companies who have shown their commitment and ability to transact their business in a professional and responsible manner, with strategies aiming at sustainable profitability. It is our policy to cooperate with such well managed companies, who share with us the "win win" promise in a long-term partnership. In addition to the non-life license issued in 1995, the supervisory authority of Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia, granted the Branch a life license in the year 2000.
