Hannover Re has been writing Non-Life business in Switzerland for more than thirty years. During this time we have been able to expand our position in the Swiss market, with local as well as with Europe-wide operating enterprises.

The Swiss insurance market is highly concentrated; only a few European and local groups generate the bulk of the business. We focus our efforts on small and medium-sized companies, operating predominantly in Switzerland and neighbouring European countries. The demand for reinsurance cover is marked by two factors: compulsary elementary perils insurance as well as the existence of monopolies for homeowners business in 70% of Swiss cantons.
We offer significant catastrophe capacities particularly for the various elementary peril insurance pools maintained by Swiss homeowners insurers (Schweizer Elementarschadenpool) and monopoly insurers (Interkantonaler Rückversicherungsverband).
