Non-Life Reinsurance

The breakdown of our market responsibilities reflects common characteristics of individual market segments as we have observed them over time. Aligned with our special expertise and long experience, the result is a three-dimensional but still rather simple structure: Target markets, global reinsurance, and specialty lines. The salient features of this structure are described below:

Target Markets

  • Highly centralised with underwriting control at Hannover Home Office and service provided by travelling underwriters
  • Encompasses our largest non-life market - North America - as well as our important domestic market of Germany
  • Bears responsibility for business from the major Hannover Re shareholders as well as the minority shareholders of E+S Rück

Specialty Lines

  • Both centralised and decentralised underwriting
  • Responsible for "monoline" business worldwide such as marine, aviation and space, credit and surety, insurance-linked securities (ILS) and structured reinsurance
  • Particular emphasis on the London market with business written predominantly through brokers

Global Reinsurance

  • Strong element of decentralisation with ability to serve local markets directly and via brokers from the offices of our worldwide network
  • Includes emerging markets as well as our facultative portfolio and global catastrophe business
  • Encompasses established markets worldwide which are not included in the other segments but are closely tied to the worldwide network
